Places That Really Need Your Stuff...
*The Salvation Army is in need of some items for their Service Center which helps families in need. Requested items include: toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, hairspray, dish soap, plastic baggies, napkins, sponges, cleaning supplies, and socks for all ages. For more information, or to schedule a donation drop-off, contact them at 563-324-4808. *The Salvation Army Stores, Davenport (563-323-2748) will come to your house and pick up almost ANY items (no mattresses), large or small, and haul them away to their donation centers/stores. Currently their clothing stores are VERY low--please consider donating your clothing to this worthy organization. *Humility of Mary, Davenport As you're cleaning out your garages and basements, please keep HMHI in mind! They just finished their "Fresh Start" sale (held in May--see calendar for more details) but can use lots of items in good condition for their next sale. Requested items include: household items, kitchen items, home decor, small appliances, tools, movies, games, etc. For more info, or to schedule a donation drop-off, contact Sr. Mary Ann at 563-326-1330 or visit their site. *Children's Book Room, Moline (3928 12th Avenue) Consider donating those excess children's books that are still in good shape to them. The children's book room in Moline is open to all children preschool-6th grade, regardless of income or hometown. Children may come and select a book of their own to keep. For FREE! Hours are Wed/Thurs 2-5 PM, 1st/3rd Saturdays from 10 AM-Noon. After the Festival is done, items are distributed to needy children in the Quad Cities. *Harmony Hills Church, Bettendorf (Phone 563-355-0980) hosts a twice-weekly FREE clothing giveway. They always need gently worn or new clothing for children! *Sacred Heart's Clothing Center, Davenport (Phone 563-324-3257)--accepts clothing in all sizes that they give away to neighborhood and other residents for FREE. They accept donations on Mon, Wed, Fri, and Sat. Tues and Thurs are distribution days. This is a GREAT use of clothes you're no longer using! Best of all, what they don't use, they donate to Salvation Army. email at davsacredheart@diodav.org *QC Greyhound Adoption Center, Maysville (Phone 563-823-8900) --bleach, paper towels and toilet paper, HE liquid laundry detergent, postage stamps, old bed linens (no open weave blankets), vet wrap, Purina ProPlan (canned or dry) dog food, Purina weight circles (from Purina product packages) *Winnie's Place, Rock Island (Phone 309-764-9466)--a shelter program for women with or without children who are homeless and/or victims of domestic violence. Program has many needs. For a current wish-list, call or visit their site. *Moxie Shop, Rock Island (Phone 309-788-3479 Ext.12) a program of the YWCA, Rock Island. Accepts gently used formal, business and business casual attire. Operates an upscale, resale boutique in downtown R.I. designed for women who are entering or re-entering the workforce to seek gainful employment. *Lydia House, Davenport (Phone 563-322-0382); Crisis Pregnancy Center, Davenport (Phone 563-386-3787) and Moline (Phone 309-797-3636); Birthright (Phone 563-324-5261); and Women's Choice Center, Bettendorf (Phone 563-332-0745) all usually need new (bottles, pacifiers, diapers, wipes) and gently used baby items--blankets, onesies, socks, layette items. *Arrowhead Ranch, Coal Valley (Phone 309-799-7044 Ext.225) will take your donated car, truck, boat or other vehicle. They sell it at public auction, and YOU get to take the selling price as a tax deduction. |
